By graduating with a minor in Catechetics, you’ll be able to fulfill the words of Pope Saint John Paul II in his Apostolic Exhortation Catechesi Tradendae: “Every catechist should be able to apply to himself the mysterious words of Jesus: ‘My teaching is not mine, but his who sent me.'”

1. Theological knowledge: Discover the nature of catechesis, that rich tradition of forming Christian disciples in our Holy Catholic Faith throughout the ages. Beginning with the early Church Fathers and continuing to our own time, you’ll explore the dynamic relationship between catechesis, evangelization and conversion.
2. Apologetics: Become empowered to reflect more deeply upon fundamental Catholic theological areas of study such as God, Creation, the Fall, Redemption, Anthropology, Morality, and Eschatology. Learn to defend your Faith and give a powerful account of the truths of Jesus Christ in the midst of an unbelieving, and at times, hostile audience. Live out Pope Saint John Paul's call in his apostolic constitution, Ex Corde Ecclesiae, to ardently search for and communicate truth.
3. Education techniques: Learn the basic elements involved in the art and science of teaching. You’ll investigate the sociological, historical and philosophical foundations of education with a focus on the key elements informing American, classical and Catholic education. You’ll benefit from practical advice on curriculum planning, evaluation procedures, classroom management, educational standards and school organization.
